Buildings of Interest
Bicester is fortunate to have retained many old buildings, some of which are "listed" under the Government's Listed Building designation.
Listed buildings are buildings designated by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport as being of 'special architectural or historic interest'. Recommendations for, and records of, listed buildings are maintained by English Heritage, the government's lead body for the historic environment, which acts as the government's advisor on all additions and other alterations to the statutory list.
An informative leaflet entitled 'A Stroll Round Bicester's Buildings' was produced in May 2011 by Pat Snelson and is obtainable from the Society at a cost of 50p.
The society's second DVD in the Bygone Bicester series, 'Bicester's Buildings' was released in September 2016 and gives a detailed look at some of the town's architectural heritage. It is available to purchase directly from the society, or through Coles Bookstore. See the society's publications page for more details.
