On the previous day, 27 May 1940 two aircraft from 16 OTU at Upper Heyford were on a flight to the Bristol Channel and an air firing detail. Hampden L4156 and L4158 collided in mid-air near Ilfracombe. All the crews were killed although Rupert Frost died of his injuries the following day. Upon enrolment at King’s College London, home address given as Lunghurst Rise, Woldingham, Surrey.
