Grandson of John & Martha East, of 44 Field Street, Bicester. Born in Headington.

"Mrs Sherman, of Field-street, Bicester, has received the official news of the death of her son, Pte. Albert East, of the Oxfords, who has been missing since July last.
A first report, received some months ago, reported him to be missing, but a letter was received from the Red Cross authorities containing the evidence of a comrade who saw him fall with a bullet in his head in “No man’s land,” near the front line of German trenches on the Somme. The official communication now received gives the date of his death as July 30, 1916, and dispels all his relatives’ hopes that he might be a prisoner of war. He was a Bicester lad, and quite well-known in the town." Bicester Herald 06/04/1917
