"Among the names on the long list of local casualties that we have to report this week is that of Pte. Tom Gaskins, 4th Son of Mr and Mrs H. Gaskins, of Upper Arncott, who has been killed in action. The sad news was received from the Record Office, the communication being a short one, and merely stating that he was killed on July 14th “while going up to his comrades.” This most unfortunate event has put an end to a short military career, for, having joined his regiment (the Oxon and Bucks Light Infantry) in January, he had been at the Front scarcely a month, the action in which he was killed being the first in which he had been engaged. He was 21 years of age." Bicester Herald 28/07/1916
