Son of Matilda Grimsley. Brother of Frances Mary Grimsley of Wellington Road, St. Mary Cray, Kent. Born in Bicester, lived with his sister. His brother William Thomas also fell.

"On September 25th of last year, Private John Grimsley (1st Batt. Queen’s Royal West Surrey Regiment), was reported missing. For a long period nothing was heard of him, but news has now come through from the German government that he has either been killed or died of wounds. His sister, Mrs L. Baber (of Erith, Kent), has received a letter from the British Red Cross headquarters, saying Pte. Grimsley is reported killed.
Deceased, who is the second son of the late Mr George Grimsley, groom, who lived in Chapel yard (back of Wesley Hall), Bicester, and was employed by Mr L.S. Cobham for about 11 years, when at Bicester and Winslow, enlisted in October 1914, and went to France early in 1915." Bicester Herald 30/06/1916
