Son of Mrs Eliza Hathaway, of 4 Oxford Road, Wendlebury. Brother of Albert. Killed in action in the Battle of Langemarck (1917).
"Mrs Hathaway, of Wendlebury, has been officially informed that her son, Pte. William G. Hathaway, of the Oxon and Bucks Light Infantry was killed in action on the 16th ulto. The following letter has been received by her from an officer in his company: “I very much regret to have to tell you that your son, Pte. W.G. Hathaway was killed in action on the morning of the 16th. He died with many others of his company and regiment in the big and successful attack which was made on that date. I can only offer you all my sympathy in the loss of your son. Like many more of his friends he has helped to make the reputation of his regiment and my company and has now made the supreme sacrifice in honour of them.”
