"We regret to record the death of Private Cyril Morgan Hawtin, eldest son of Mr and Mrs F.C. Hawtin, of Sheep Street, Bicester, which took place in France on September 2nd. Deceased, who was in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers and attached to the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment, has been in France since December, 1916, and joined the army voluntarily in June of the previous year. Mrs Hawtin first received intimation of her son’s death from a chaplain in France, who, in touching reference to him states that he was killed by a bullet whilst taking part in an attack on the German line. He died almost instantaneously. Private Hawtin, who had his only leave in February last, was well known in Bicester, and much sympathy has been extended to his relatives in their loss. He was 23 years of age.
Mr and Mrs F.C. Hawtin and Family desire to thank all Friends for their kindness and sympathy extended to them in their sad loss." Bicester Advertiser 20/09/1918
