"Mrs Jenkins, of Chapel Yard, has received the news that her son, Private William Jenkins, of the King’s Liverpool Regiment (Labour Battalion) has been killed in France. Before enlisting he worked for Messrs. Layton and Son. The news of his death was sent to his mother by an officer, who stated that whilst the battalion was carrying out important work a shell burst amongst them, killing four members of the party, including Pte. Jenkins." Bicester Advertiser 06/04/1917
