"We regret to learn that Frederick Smith was killed in action about the middle of last month. He joined the army in March 1917, going to France with a battalion of the Royal Fusiliers in March this year. His grandmother (he had no mother or father) received news from the War Office to say he was wounded on April 6th, but a later communication stated he had been killed in action. He was only 19 years of age. In civil life he was employed at Mr Layton’s garage, and resided at 3, Ladysmith Terrace." Bicester Advertiser 17/05/1918
